Quick Answer: Farlands has 8 romance candidates: four bachelors (Elliot, Eddy, Spike, Te'Righ) and four bachelorettes (Alisha, Layla, Siona, Zoe). Friendship runs through five levels, raised by daily interactions and by gifts a candidate actually likes β pizza is the universal one. Reaching a candidate's Level 5 event concludes their storyline. To marry, you need enough space in your house and the Ceremonial Ribbon, and Mayor Oola walks you through it. After the wedding your spouse moves in and joins you on some trips.
Version note: Written for 1.0 (July 2026, current through patch 1.0.4, August 5). Wedding and Level 5 mechanics come from the developers' official 0.9 "Wedding Update" notes; candidate roster, locations, friendship math and gift data are community-documented (principally the ES Steam community romance guide, credited below). Achievement percentages captured July 17, 2026.

The 8 Candidates and Where to Find Them
All eight wander their home planets rather than keeping fixed schedules, the same design that trips up players looking for merchants. Locations below are community-documented.
| Candidate | Found on | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Elliot | Terbin | Noble-hearted; the town cold-shoulders him over his family name |
| Eddy | Galea | A bundle of nerves who dreams of leaving Galea; roams every zone except the farm area |
| Spike | Galea | Serious and perpetually worried, but kind; found only in Galea's farm zone |
| Te'Righ | Terbin | Laid-back bohemian; loves hanging around the park |
| Alisha | Terbin | Smart and studious |
| Layla | Terbin | Somber and reserved |
| Siona | Terbin | Friendly with everyone |
| Zoe | Terbin | High energy; passionate about forging swords and tools |
Six of the eight live on Terbin, the main populated planet. Eddy and Spike both require trips to Galea, in different zones β budget the travel fuel if you're courting either (Beginner Guide covers the fuel trap).
How Friendship Actually Works
Patch 1.0.3 (July 23, 2026) rebalanced this system: the official notes state it now costs less to improve relationships. The developers didn't publish new numbers, so treat every figure below β all community-documented during Early Access β as pre-rebalance and generous-side stale.
- You start at 0 points with everyone. Each heart level spans 200 points, so level 1 lands at 200 and level 5 at 1,000.
- Daily interactions carry risk. A plain chat is safe but small (+5 on success), jokes are mid-tier (+10), and flirting pays best (+15) but fails often at low levels. Failure subtracts points.
- Success odds improve with friendship level. Flirting succeeds only ~10% of the time with a stranger and far more reliably at high hearts.
The routing survives the rebalance: gift and safe-chat every day early, escalate interactions as hearts fill. It's simply a shorter grind than the EA-era numbers suggest.
Gifts: What to Give (and What Not to Bother With)
You can hand anyone anything, but only gifts a candidate actually likes raise friendship. From the community's testing:
- Pizza is loved by all eight candidates, worth +10 friendship. It's a cooked dish, so a working kitchen turns crops into courtship.
- Individual loved-gift lists follow each character's personality. Eddy the anxious collector loves specific insects from across the star system. Alisha the scholar loves artifacts and fossils β stone tablets, ancient finds β plus baked sweets. Elliot responds to cooked comfort food like stew.
- Several loved gifts are artifacts from later planets' artifact nodes, so some candidates' best gifts sit behind ship upgrades. Pizza bridges the gap until then.
We're deliberately not reproducing the full per-character tables here. They're the work of a Steam community guide author (the ES-language "Guia de Romance y Mejores Regalos" β credit where due), and parts are still marked unknown at 1.0. We'll fold in a complete table as English-language documentation firms up.
Level 5, the Ceremonial Ribbon, and the Wedding
The official mechanics, from the developers' 0.9 update notes:
- Reach a candidate's Level 5 event. This concludes their character arc; all eight storylines got their endings in the Wedding Update.
- Have enough space in your house. The developers state the marriage option requires it, so upgrade the house first (the "Your own mansion" achievement chain is the same track).
- Use the Ceremonial Ribbon. Mayor Oola explains the process and officiates. If you don't have the ribbon, it comes from Mayor Oola's event or can be bought β one player who completed their wedding names the Terbin merchant and Alisha's father as sellers (single community source, August 2 forum reply).
Fixed in 1.0.4 (August 5): for two weeks the wedding cutscene never triggered with Spike β 5 hearts reached, marriage item given, the menu listing him as partner, but no ceremony and no move-in. The patch names it: weddings now work correctly in both Terbin and Galea, and Spike's and Eddy's event 5 triggers correctly. The player who filed the first report married Spike on their previously stuck save the next day, so a broken save recovers. Update before marrying either of them. Full patch detail in Bugs & Fixes.

After the Wedding
Officially, your husband or wife moves into your house and will accompany you on some of your trips. Marriage ends the friendship track but not the character's presence.
Marriage also gates endgame content. With the house fully upgraded and the wedding done, a cutscene with Mayor Oola triggers near the city hall a few in-game days later, handing you two treasure maps that start the Vanadian pyramid quest line. The purple exclamation mark hovering over Terbin late-game is that quest waiting on its prerequisites, not a leftover bug (community-documented July 30, two corroborating accounts). The full chain is in Bugs & Fixes under the Terbin map-markers entry.
Married life: your spouse shares the house from then on. House space is a hard requirement for the wedding, so upgrade early. (Image: JanduSoft, official update notes)
How Long This Takes (Achievement Reality Check)
Global unlock rates as of July 17, 2026:
| Milestone | Global % |
|---|---|
| Friendship level 1 with anyone ("Acquaintances") | 1.0% |
| Level 2 ("Friends") | 0.7% |
| Level 3 ("Good Friends") | 0.5% |
| Level 4 ("Special friends") | 0.2% |
| Level 5 ("More than just friendship?") | 0.1% |
| Married ("Newlyweds") | 0.1% |
| Max friendship with all 8 ("Pickup Artist") | 0.1% |
Launch-week numbers skew low across the board, but the steep drop from level 1 to level 2 is real. Friendship grinding is slow and most players don't prioritize it. If you want the wedding, make gifting a daily habit from early on rather than a late-game push. Full achievement context in the Achievements Guide.
FAQ
Can I romance multiple candidates at once? Friendship with all eight simultaneously is clearly supported β "Pickup Artist" is an achievement for exactly that. Whether the game restricts marriage to one spouse, or lets you re-marry, isn't reliably documented yet.
Does gifting pizza really work on everyone? Per community testing, yes. It's the one universally loved gift documented so far. It won't beat a candidate's personal loved gifts, but it never misses.
My candidate isn't where the table says. They wander. Candidates move around their planet's zones by design, with Spike the exception β Galea's farm zone only. Check adjacent zones and different times of day.
Is there romance content after marriage? The developers describe marriage as the conclusion of the relationship arcs, with the spouse moving in and joining trips. No post-marriage storyline content is documented at 1.0.
