Why Everyone Misses It
Two reasons this is the game's rarest achievement:
- Nothing sends you there. No story beat and no chunk objective points below Orc Base 1. Forum posts assumed the crab spawned randomly in an ocean biome. It doesn't. It's one fixed spot.
- You need the dash. Plenty of players finish the whole game without discovering the ability exists. Press Shift; full details in How to Dash.
Step-by-Step Route
- Travel to Orc Base 1. Any time works — the elevator lets you come back whenever you like, so this fits early game or post-story cleanup.
- Head to the area with the cage / elevator structure.
- Stand at the cliff edge next to it and jump or drop over the edge.
- While falling, dash left to drift into the small crevice in the cliff face. Miss it and you just land below. Climb back up and retry; there's no fall penalty worth worrying about.
- Walk up to the crab inside the cave and press E.
- You collect 10 tokens, and Best Friends unlocks immediately.
When to Do It
Go early. Those 10 tokens are worth most while the token shop still has things you want — the treasure finder perk first, the gold pickaxe later (Beginner Guide covers token priorities). Nothing here is missable, so late cleanup works too.
One thing that can block the trip: a known elevator bug where travel between Orc Base 1 and 2 stops responding. If the elevator won't take you, quit to the main menu and hit Continue. Details in Bugs & Fixes.
FAQ
Do I need any upgrade besides the dash? No. Players grab the crab early in a fresh run. The dash, used mid-fall, is the only real requirement.
Is the crab connected to any other content? Nothing else is tied to it. It's a self-contained secret: 10 tokens, one achievement, one friend for life.
I dashed and still missed the crevice. Drop first, then dash. The timing is "dash while falling," not "dash off the ledge" — you want to drift left into the opening beneath the cage.
